Adopting a Kitten/Cat

Cat Care Hospital loves to hear about people adopting kittens and cats. Bringing a new pet into your home can be exciting and stressful at the same time. Being educated about what to expect from buying a litter box to vaccinations can help reduce this stress. Below is a shopping list of items to put in your home for your new feline family member.
  • Litter Box - Check your local pet store for a variety of litter boxes to choose from. Plastic storage containers and small dog litter pans are some other options.
  • Litter - Most cats prefer fine-grained, unscented, clumping litter.
  • Food bowls - There are many varieties including ceramic, stainless steel and plastic.
  • Food - Check with your veterinarian about the best food for your new cat.
  • Scratching Post - This is important for your cat to be able to groom its front claws and to keep your furniture looking new. See our web page on buying a scratching post.
  • Bed - Even if you plan on your cat sleeping on your bed, she will need a separate place to call her own. Pet beds are available in most stores. You can also be creative and make one with foam and fabric from a local cloth store.

Vaccinations

Kittens (6 weeks-5 months):

It is important to give your kitten a healthy start in life. Kittens require booster shots for the first 6 months of their life. This can become very expensive, so we have decided to help. Our new “Healthy Kitten Value Pack” offers you a discount on all vaccinations your kitten needs in the first 6 months. We have broken it down by visit, so you know what to expect each time your kitten comes in.
